We’re proud to be part of the new Broadway revival of GERSHWIN’S PORGY & BESS.
Here’s Theater League president Mark Edelman in New York, posing with the show’s sultry subway poster. Edelman tells us that the opening night crowd was pretty cool– Tommy Tune, Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Christine Baranski, Richard Thomas (the guy from the Waltons) and Broadway star Raul Esparza all walked by Mark and wife Karin’s seats. However, our CEO’s biggest thrill was the smallest guy in the room– Paul Simon.
“I told Paul how much we enjoyed his recent concert in Kansas City,” Edelman explained. “Simon responded, ‘What’s a guy from Kansas City doing here?’ I replied, ‘We’ve got money in the show.’”
Edelman reported that stars Audra McDonald, Norm Lewis and David Allen Grier were terrific. “Our investment in the show is a small one,” he commented. “But it’s nice to play a role in bringing this American masterpiece to Broadway, where a new generation of theatergoers can thrill to its stirring music and touching story.”
